Consulting

Sometimes the useful thing is an outside opinion with nothing to sell you.

An agency proposing agency work has an obvious incentive. Consulting removes it.

Direct answer

Marketing consulting is advisory work for companies with an internal team or an existing agency: diagnosing why results are flat, reviewing what is being run, deciding priorities, and giving a second opinion on proposals before money is committed. Execution stays where it already is.

02 · Detail

What consulting is genuinely good for.

Reviewing a proposal before you sign it is one of the highest-value things we do. Reading someone else's scope and pricing with no stake in the outcome frequently saves clients more than the consulting costs.

The second is diagnosing flat results when the team is competent and busy. That situation usually means effort is going to the wrong constraint, and someone from outside is better placed to say so than someone inside the routine.

The third is choosing between options that all sound reasonable. Whether to invest in SEO or paid traffic first is a question with a real answer for your specific situation, and it depends on facts about your business rather than on preference.

03 · How it works

How it works.

  1. 01

    Situation

What is running, what it costs and what it produces. Measured, not described.

  2. 02

    Diagnosis

Where results are actually constrained, which is often not where it is assumed.

  3. 03

    Options

Realistic paths with honest trade-offs, including doing nothing.

  4. 04

    Recommendation

What we would do, and why, stated plainly.

  5. 05

    Review

Periodic check-ins as the work progresses and evidence arrives.

04 · Fit

Who marketing consulting is for.

It fits companies with an internal team or an existing agency and a need for outside judgement: results are flat and everyone is busy, a proposal is on the table and nobody can evaluate it, two reasonable options need deciding between. It fits leadership that wants an opinion with nothing riding on the answer.

It fits companies reviewing their current agency. We look at what is being run and report what we find, whether that supports the agency or not, and that review is one of the most common requests we receive.

It is a poor fit for companies that need execution rather than advice. If the recommendation is work we do, we say so and you decide; frequently the recommendation is to fix something internal or to keep the agency you have and change the brief.

05 · Common mistakes

What consulting most often uncovers.

  • Effort on the wrong constraint. A competent, busy team working hard on something that is not what limits results.
  • Proposals priced for scope nobody needs. Reading someone else's scope with no stake in it frequently saves more than the consulting costs.
  • Measurement that cannot support decisions. Reports full of numbers that do not connect to revenue.
  • Channel choices by preference. SEO versus paid first has a real answer for your situation, and it depends on facts, not taste.
  • An agency and a client with different definitions of success. Often the brief, not the agency, is the problem.

The most useful thing consulting provides is usually a clear statement of what the problem actually is. Solutions tend to follow from that.

06 · Measurement

How it works.

The situation measured rather than described, a diagnosis of where results are constrained, realistic options with honest trade-offs including doing nothing, and a plain recommendation of what we would do and why. Periodic check-ins as the work progresses and evidence arrives.

Confidentiality agreements are routine, because reviewing accounts and proposals means seeing commercially sensitive information.
