YouTube Ads
On YouTube you have five seconds before the skip button.
Video advertising rewards a clear promise made immediately, not a brand film that builds to a reveal.
YouTube Ads management covers skippable in-stream, in-feed and short-form video campaigns. The work is concentrated in two places: the first five seconds of the creative, and the measurement that connects a view to a conversion that happened later.

02 · Detail
What actually decides YouTube performance.
The hook is nearly everything. Most viewers decide during the countdown before the skip button appears, so the promise has to be stated in that window rather than built towards. Brand films that open with scenery and music are paying to be skipped.
The second factor is what happens after. Video rarely converts on the first view for anything considered, which makes YouTube most effective as a demand generator feeding remarketing and search. Judging it purely on last-click conversions will always make it look worse than it is.
It is also the cheapest place to reach a large audience with a message that needs explaining. For products where the objection is that nobody understands what the thing does, video answers that faster than any landing page.
03 · How it works
How we run video.
- 01
Objective
Awareness, consideration or conversion. These need different creative and different measurement.
- 02
Hook
The promise stated inside the first five seconds. Everything else is secondary.
- 03
Audience
In-market and custom intent segments, plus your own remarketing lists.
- 04
Sequence
What the viewer sees next. Video alone rarely closes a considered purchase.
- 05
Measure
View-through and assisted conversions, reported honestly alongside last-click.
04 · Fit
Who YouTube Ads is for.
YouTube fits products that need explaining, brands that need to be known before they are searched for, and remarketing to people who already visited. It is the cheapest place to put a clear message in front of a large, targetable audience, which makes it a demand generator rather than a closer.
It works for businesses with a longer consideration cycle when combined with search and remarketing: the video introduces, search captures the person who later types the name, and remarketing follows up. Judged on its own last-click numbers, it will always look worse than it is.
It is a poor fit for accounts with no measurement of assisted conversions, and for businesses that cannot produce a video with a clear opening line. Production value matters less than the first five seconds; a slow, beautiful film pays to be skipped.
05 · Common mistakes
The mistakes we correct first.
- The promise arrives after the skip button. Most viewers decide during the countdown. The hook belongs in the first five seconds, not after a logo animation.
- Judging video by last click. YouTube rarely closes a considered purchase directly. Assisted conversions and branded search lift are the honest measures.
- Reusing vertical, sound-off creative. In-stream assumes sound on and horizontal framing. Meta cut-downs underperform without adaptation.
- No remarketing sequence after the view. A viewer who watched most of the video is a warm audience being wasted if nothing follows.
- Awareness campaigns measured as conversion campaigns. Objective, creative and measurement have to match, or the report answers the wrong question.
The fix is usually a shorter, franker edit and a measurement plan that credits what video actually does, which is start the conversation that search and remarketing finish.
06 · Measurement
How we measure and report.
We report view-through and assisted conversions alongside last-click, plus branded search volume over time, because that is where video shows up first. Cost per completed view and audience retention tell us whether the creative holds attention; conversion lift tells us whether it mattered.
When YouTube feeds remarketing and search, the report shows the sequence as a whole rather than each campaign in isolation, so a channel is not cut for failing at a job it was never given.
